The German authorities have decided to extend the strict quarantine in the country until January 31. It is reported by Reuters with reference to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Merkel said Germany will take additional measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. She also called on all residents of the country to reduce their social contacts to the “absolute minimum”. It is noted that previously the regime of strict restrictive measures was in effect in Germany until January 10.

Earlier, several federal states of Germany most affected by the coronavirus epidemic demanded that the government extend the lockdown.

Since December 16, the German authorities have introduced the strictest quarantine in the entire history of the country due to the coronavirus pandemic. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier urged Germans not to see their relatives in person during the Christmas celebrations. He believes that giving gifts and spending time together can be done later, but now it is necessary to cope with the epidemic.
