German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced to the citizens of the country that at the meeting, the heads of the federal states decided to extend the strict quarantine measures until mid-February.

“We must extend the measures until February 14,” said the head of the FRG government.

Angela Merkel noted that the number of new infected with coronavirus is gradually decreasing, and this “gives reason for hope,” but it is too early to relax, because now there is a new danger – an even more infectious strain of COVID-19. Therefore, the German authorities believe that it is not yet possible to ease the quarantine conditions.

“We understand that these measures require a lot from citizens, but we need to continue to think ahead,” Merkel quoted TASS as saying.

We will remind, as the website kp.ru wrote, earlier a new mutation of the coronavirus was found in one of the hospitals in Bavaria, where 73 people were infected with it – both staff and patients. It was reported that the German authorities may oblige the population to wear FFP2 respirators instead of conventional protective masks.
