The source code of Windows XP has been merged into the network, which will increase the risks for users of the operating system. This is reported by the edition of Windows Central with reference to materials 4chan.

Journalists noticed that an archive with files containing the source code of the popular OS was published on the anonymous forum 4chan this week. In addition to classified information about the operating system, the archive contained secret files of the Xbox software. Experts have studied the stolen data and confirmed their reliability.

Windows Central reports that a Windows XP source code leak could trigger new attacks on OS users. Although XP is deprecated and Microsoft does not support this product, the system is still installed on many computers. According to the agency NetMarketShare, the share of Windows XP is about 1.26 percent, that is, the OS is installed on about 25 million devices worldwide.

Reporters contacted Microsoft for comment, but were unable to get a prompt response.

Windows XP was released on October 25, 2001. The operating system is considered one of the most successful and popular Microsoft products. OS support ended on April 8, 2014.
