From now on male rugby players can also wear leggings. The World Rugby Federation has changed the relevant regulation. Up until now this was reserved for women. But “for reasons of well-being”, men are now also allowed to wear long, tight trousers if they want – the leggings can prevent abrasions on the knees, it is said.
Most recently, reports of clothing regulations in beach handball caused a sensation. Norway's women's team had worn shorts instead of bikini bottoms and received a fine for it. The European Handball Federation actually sees the shorts as a “case of inappropriate clothing”. Media picked up the topic worldwide. Discussions about different and absurd dress codes for men and women started.
The European handball federation EHF's fine of € 150 per player finally wanted to settle the singer Pink, who promptly joined the fight against sexism among the Norwegians.
And the gymnast team from Germany also set an example. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the female athletes competed in full body suits – and thus fought against the sexualization of women in sport.
