Memorial plaques with the names of Soviet soldiers installed in Slovakia
In the Slovak city of Zvolen, at the Central Military Memorial Cemetery of the Red Army, plates with the names of more than 11 thousand Soviet servicemen buried there were installed, the Russian Defense Ministry reports.
As specified in the department, this list has been compiled for more than two years. To establish the names of the victims, it was necessary to carefully examine the archives of the Russian defense department, as well as the register of military graves of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Slovakia. In addition, work was carried out with the relatives of the participants in the Great Patriotic War, who liberated Slovakia from fascism.
It is noted that this large-scale project has united several generations and two countries. Employees of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in Slovakia prepared detailed instructions for working with databases for volunteers.
At the final stage of the project, specialists carried out a final check of the name list, eliminated duplicate names from it and corrected inaccuracies, after which work began on creating layouts of commemorative tables and installing them.
Now this Slovak cemetery contains 120 memorial plates with the names of the soldiers of the Red Army. More than 17 thousand Soviet soldiers and officers were buried in 320 single and 18 mass graves.
Earlier it was reported that the RF IC opened a criminal case on the desecration of the military grave of the Red Army soldiers in Lithuania. At the end of November, unknown persons poured paint on a monument and gravestones at the brotherly cemetery in the town of Obyaliai. In addition, the vandals applied offensive symbols.
