There are still question marks behind the Tokyo Games
For a senior member of the Japanese ruling party, canceling the Tokyo Olympics is an option. If rising coronavirus cases mean that “it is impossible, then we have to give up,” Toshihiro Nikai, general secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party, said in a TV interview, according to Kyodo news agency.
The summer games are to be played from July 23rd to August 8th, they have already been postponed from the previous year to this year. The cancellation is “of course” an option, added Nikai. “If the Olympics spread infection, what would the Olympics stand for?” Nikai is an important supporter of Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who has recently always affirmed that the games will take place.
