Meeting between Putin and Kim Jong-in: the DPRK leader has weapons that the Russian dictator really wants

Dictators do not tell what they agreed on .

Meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-untook place at a moment of mutual need. In particular, Moscow needs ammunition for the war against Ukraine, and Pyongyang needs military technology to ensure the security of the Kim regime.

The New York Times writes about this.

As journalists write, North Korea became a more significant ally for Russia, despite disagreements and poverty. This indicates how much the war against Ukraine has changed the foreign policy of the Russian Federation.

As the director of the Russian Carnegie Eurasian Center Alexander Gabuev said, war is the organizing principle of Russian foreign policy. According to him, North Korea can support the Kremlin’s desire to repel what Putin calls “Western hegemony.”

The publication recalls that when the Russian Federation launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the DPRK was one of the first and few to support its countries.

However, analysts say Russia is now concerned about North Korea's developing nuclear weapons program. After six nuclear tests carried out by Pyongyang between 2006 and 2017, the Russian Federation and China joined a series of UN Security Council resolutions imposing increasingly harsh sanctions against the DPRK. But as the conflict and confrontation with the United States worsened, the issue became secondary.

Matthew Miller, a State Department spokesman in Washington, described the meeting as Putin “begging Kim Jong Un for help.”

< p>But Russia is not the only one turning to the Korean Peninsula for help: Under agreements quietly struck with Washington, South Korea has been delivering large quantities of artillery shells to the United States for months.

The Washington Post notes that Kim Jong Un may give Putin Soviet-style artillery ammunition in exchange for food and weapons technology. The Kremlin may also allow more North Korean workers to work in the Russian Federation.
