Western sanctions are a myth and fiction, and their adoption is a sign of political impotence due to the inability to change the course of Russia. This was stated by Deputy Head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, RIA Novosti reports.
“I believe that it is obvious to all smart people: sanctions are a myth, a fiction, a figure of speech. I am deeply indifferent to these widely advertised restrictions on rights abroad. I can say it more strictly, but I will refrain. I am a citizen of Russia. And that's it. Well, sanctions are being taken for an obvious reason. From political impotence, which arose on the basis of the inability to change the course of Russia, ”he commented.
Earlier, the European Union (EU) adopted a second package of sanctions, which included Russian statesmen, including President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, as well as enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex and visa restrictions . The decision was made against the backdrop of Russia launching a military operation to protect Donbass. It is noted that we are talking about the freezing of assets, while which ones are not specified.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation in the Donbass. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia. Kyiv began the evacuation of embassy staff from Moscow.
