In 2018, he was found guilty of assaulting his classmate. According to testimony in court, Al Issa hit the student on the head. The young man claimed that the victim laughed at him and gave him “racist nicknames”. As a result, the court sentenced Al Issa to probation and community service.

Earlier, the elder brother of the accused reported about the antisocial and paranoid behavior of a relative. According to him, Ahmad complained about “surveillance and harassment” while still in school. According to The New York Times, Ahmad Al Issa was involved in wrestling and kickboxing at school. ABC News reports that the defendant acquired the weapon less than a week before the shooting, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
