Mbappe wants to further increase market value at EM
France's top striker Kylian Mbappe has admitted a dispute with Sturm colleague Oliver Giroud two days before the championship opener against Germany. “I have the feeling he was talking about 365 times in the game,” said Mbappe at a media meeting on Sunday. “The only problem is: he didn't say anything to me. I only found out about it through the press. I would have preferred if we had discussed it personally in the dressing room.”
After the friendly against Bulgaria (3-0), veteran Giroud (34) complained in a TV interview about the lack of teamwork in the attack. Mbappe has now confirmed that he was initially so angry that he asked to be allowed to the press conference after the game. “The coach explained to me that it was not the right time and that we would sort it out between ourselves. That's why I'm only here today,” said the 22-year-old now. He spoke to Giroud. “This little micro-episode won't disturb our focus on the essentials.”
Mbappe does not want to give any information about his future at Paris Saint-Germain during the European Championship. “I don't want to disturb the rest of the team,” said the Parisian star. He denied rumors that he had asked the club to sign certain players or even to change the system. At PSG, Mbappe, who is allegedly courted by Real Madrid, only has one contract until 2022. Club President Nasser Al-Khelaifi had recently described him as “not for sale”.
