Matvienko threatened YouTube with heavy fines

by alex

Moscow. September 29. INTERFAX.RU – Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko proposes to impose heavy fines on YouTube and refuse to advertise on this resource in connection with the removal of RT channels from the platform.

“It seems to me that now Roskomnadzor needs to take an absolutely tough position in the form of large fines, to oblige them to follow Russian legislation. If we are not heard, take other tough measures – we have sufficient tools, including tough retaliatory measures,” Matvienko told reporters in Yaroslavl, commenting on this situation.

According to her, the parliamentarians will think that it is necessary to register in the legislation so that “these IT companies do not allow themselves to behave in this way in Russia – they are obliged to comply with our legislation.”

“I believe that it would be very effective – and a number of countries have already done this – simply not to advertise with them in protest against the fact that they are doing such lawlessness. And when the ruble will seriously hit such companies, maybe then they will behave differently, “Matvienko noted.

At least, she believes, this could be done by state-owned companies, corporations, “our nationally oriented state patriotic business.”

Removing German RT channels from YouTube

The day before, on September 28, Russia Today editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan announced that YouTube had permanently deleted two German RT channels.

The Google press service later explained the removal of RT channels as a violation of the terms of use of the video service.

Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that Roskomnadzor turned to Google with a demand to unblock the Russia Today Youtube channels, otherwise the video hosting could face blocking.

As stated in the RKN, the actions of the Google administration violate the key principles of the free distribution of information, unhindered access to it and are an act of censorship against the Russian media.
