Matvienko: Runet will be developed so as not to depend on global failures
The Russian Federation will develop Runet in order to protect citizens from global disruptions in the operation of large network resources, but there will be no forced transition to Russian networks, TASS reports with reference to the statement of the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
As Matvienko emphasized, there are no plans to disconnect Russia from global networks, but the state does not want to depend on accidents on other people's platforms, and therefore will create a competitive product.
“We have no guarantees that an IT technogenic accident will not happen again. On the other hand, there is no guarantee that some forces may not turn off the Internet at a certain time. This will have very serious global consequences in terms of damage to business, citizens, security, ”she said.
On the evening of October 4, a global failure was recorded in the work of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, which could not be eliminated for more than six hours. On October 5, some Facebook and Instagram users faced problems again.
