Matthew expects discussions about the transfer fee for Flick

Hansi Flick is to succeed Löw as the German team boss

According to Lothar Matthäus, there will still be difficult debates between Bayern Munich and the German Football Association (DFB) about a transfer fee for coach Hansi Flick. The record national player wrote in a column for Sky on Tuesday that he “firmly assumes” that Flick will be the national coach in the summer. The Munich-based company will not dissolve the contract with Flick without hesitation despite his wish, said the 60-year-old.

“I am convinced that Bayern will pay a transfer fee for their coach. That alone should lead to major discussions with the DFB,” emphasized former world footballer Matthäus.

The former Bayern professional and world champion from 1990 expressed understanding for both the coach and the Bundesliga leaders. “Hansi just couldn't and didn't want to. The collaboration with Hasan Salihamidzic has reached a point where it just wasn't possible”, wrote Matthäus. There had been a serious crisis between the coach and the Bayern sports director for some time.

The fact that Flick made public his wish to terminate his contract on Saturday without consulting the club was not a good maneuver. “It's understandable that Bayern are angry because Hansi has dared to go it alone in public,” said Matthäus. “And if there's one thing Rummenigge and Hoeneß don't like, it's the feeling of being surprised or even demonstrated in public.”

“Hansi now has a problem with the Bayern bosses, and he shouldn't underestimate that,” added the former Rapid coach. “He really has to be careful not to cause more damage.” Despite the latest developments, Matthäus does not believe that successful coach Flick will be kicked out before the end of the season.
