Devastating floods in Texas have left people dead and dozens missing. The floods were caused by heavy rains that have swept the state in recent days.
Due to the flooding, President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency. This was reported by 24 Kanal , citing Trump's post on his social network Truht Social.
State of Emergency in Texas
At least 69 people, including 38 adults and 21 children, have been killed by flooding in Texas as of 6:39 p.m., according to U.S. officials. Another 10 deaths have been confirmed in other Texas counties.
The water in particular covered the Mystic children's camp. There, rescuers have still not found 11 children and a teacher. The camp's director, Dick Eastland, died during the flash flood. He was trying to save girls from the water.
Due to the natural phenomenon, the Donald Trump administration declared a state of emergency.
Families are experiencing an incredible tragedy – many are dead, many are missing. The Trump administration continues to work closely with state and local officials. Our incredible U.S. Coast Guard, along with state rescuers, have already saved more than 850 lives, Trump wrote in the post.
The administration is receiving updated data from Travis County, where four people have died as a result of flooding. Some areas are said to have received more than a foot of rain in just a few hours. Donald Trump has signed a “declaration of emergency” for neighboring Kerr County.
During the cleanup, the water in the streets rose faster than emergency services could save people. Now, rescue teams in Texas are looking for 27 more missing girls from Camp Mystic. Crews are searching a large area using helicopters.
The search for people is somewhat complicated by the fact that water moves debris, things and people over long distances.
