Ukrainian citizens were urged not to visit Kazakhstan because of the massive protests taking place in this country.
A corresponding warning was issued by the Embassy of Ukraine in Kazakhstan.
The diplomatic mission recalled that a state of emergency was introduced in the city of Almaty and several regions of the country.
– In connection with the introduction of January 5 to January 19, 2022, the state of emergency in Almaty, Almaty and Mangistau regions, we recommend refraining from arriving in Kazakhstan, & # 8212; noted at the embassy.
Those Ukrainians who are already on the territory of Kazakhstan are advised by the embassy not to visit crowded places while the state of emergency is in force in the country.
What is known about the protests in Kazakhstan
Mass protests in Kazakhstan broke out on January 2. The reason is a 50% increase in auto gas prices since the beginning of 2022 (from 60 to 120 tenge per liter).
First, the protesters blocked the roads in the cities of Aktau and Zhanaozen. Then the protesters also took to the streets of other cities, in particular Almaty and Nur-Sultan.
The protests continued even though the Kazakh authorities agreed to reduce the cost of autogas.
On January 4, the protests escalated in clashes with security officials (in particular, in Kyzylorda, Astana, Atyrau). According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, more than 200 people were detained due to the violation of public order. At the same time, 95 employees of the internal affairs bodies were injured.
Due to the tense situation, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, introduced a state of emergency in Almaty and Mangistau region. At the same time, he dismissed the government.
On January 5, protests in Kazakhstan continue. In particular, clashes broke out between protesters and law enforcement officers in the center of Almaty. As a result of the clashes, 190 people turned to medical institutions.
In addition, today the protesters after the assault broke into the Almaty municipality.
