From January 1, 2022, changes in legislation come into force in Russia, thanks to which citizens will begin to marry and divorce in a new way. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Justice.
Now, in order to formalize a marriage, divorce or obtain a child's birth certificate, you can contact any registry office. The same applies to registration of adoption, death, change of name or obtaining certificates and re-certificates.
Prior to that, in most cases, people had to go to the registry office for registration of acts of civil status either at the place of occurrence of the event, or at the place of registration, or at the place of storage of the act record. It was only possible to get married in any registry office. New changes in legislation remove this restriction. The law itself was passed in July 2021.
In October 2021, the head of the Ministry of Justice, Konstantin Chuichenko, proposed to abandon paper certificates from the registry office and replace them with a corresponding entry in the register, and issue extracts from it upon request.
