US President Joseph Biden has signed a law allocating $40 billion in aid to Ukraine. Mrs. Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova told what this money will be used for.

First of all, this money is used for defense. Also, part of it will be directed to support the economy and humanitarian needs.

What will 40 billion dollars from the USA be spent on

Markarova said that Biden recently signed the Law on Additional Appropriations for Ukraine for 2022. It provides about $40 billion in emergency funding to support the Ukrainian people.

It is important that President Biden signed it not upon his return from an official visit from Korea, but arranged for the delivery and signing of the document in Korea to expedite signing. Therefore, time and continuity of support are very important for Ukraine!, – said the Ambassador.

The long-awaited document provides for the transfer of resources to Ukraine, in particular, to protect global democracy as a whole.

$23.75 billion are planned to be directed to security and defense assistance to Ukraine, as well as to US efforts to strengthen European security. In particular:

  • $6 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, in particular, the provision of weapons, military equipment, training, logistical support, logistics, intelligence support;
  • $4 billion for the US Department of State's Foreign Military Financing program to provide additional support to Ukraine and NATO's eastern flank to develop and strengthen their defense capabilities;
  • $8.7 billion to replenish US stockpiles of weapons and military equipment, provided to Ukraine;
  • $3.9 billion to the European Mission Support Operations Command, intelligence support, additional weapons and equipment;
  • $550 million to acquire critical munitions to increase U.S. Department of Defense stockpiles and develop systems protection strategies identified for possible future exports;
  • $600 million to reduce existing industrial base restrictions to accelerate missile production and expand opportunities to extract critical minerals.

Another $9 billionwill be directed to additional economic and technical assistance to Ukraine, namely:

  • 8 billion dollars – to respond to urgent needs in Ukraine, in particular to provide direct budgetary support;
  • 400 million dollars to support law enforcement and ensure the rule of law in Ukraine, in particular, to investigate and document war crimes and violations of human rights;
  • $100 million to provide protection against the effects of chemical, biological and nuclear threats and expand demining programs;
  • $500 million to support the EBRD to meet Ukraine's economic and energy needs.

Also, $6.58 billion will be directed towards additional humanitarian assistance to solve the problem of food security at the global level, as well as to help people affected by Russian aggression.

  • $350 million to provide humanitarian assistance to refugees from Ukraine;
  • $4.35 billion to provide food assistance to people around the world suffering from hunger due to Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as to provide for others urgent humanitarian needs of Ukrainians;
  • $150 million to help mitigate the impact of rising food prices on global countries, including Ukraine;
  • 900 million dollars – to assist refugees from Ukraine in the United States, in particular, for housing, learning English, post-traumatic support, schooling, etc.;
  • 760 million dollars – for prevention and response to a global food emergency;
  • $54 million to provide medical assistance to refugees from Ukraine in the United States;
  • $20 million to provide additional humanitarian assistance.

The law also provides for:

  • funding the measures of the US Department of Justice to seize and sell confiscated property related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine (for example, yachts of Russian oligarchs) – $67 million,< /li>
  • US Department of the Treasury measures to track Russian financial activity – $ 52 million,
  • the resumption of the work of the American diplomatic mission in Ukraine – $ 327 million.
