It is difficult to keep a player if he doesn't want to, says the RB Leipzig coach.
RB Leipzig's new coach Jesse Marsch is hoping for the whereabouts of the ÖFB team player Marcel Sabitzer, who is supposedly also courted by FC Bayern. “But it's difficult to keep a player if he doesn't want to stay,” said the 47-year-old American in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung .
Saying goodbye to the 27-year-old midfielder, whose contract expires at the end of the season, “wouldn't be easy,” said the former Red Bull Salzburg coach.
“I like Sabi. He has become an important figure in this club over the past few years, ”Marsch said to the Süddeutsche. He can understand that Sabitzer is worried about the future “when it says that a club like Bayern Munich is interested, and that is just one of many clubs”.
There have been good conversations. “We are both mature enough and we are aware that the situation can change or stay the same,” emphasized Marsch.
Apart from that, the clear goal of his club is to qualify for the Champions League again. “We have a lot of respect for all of our rivals, every matchday is a test, we have to show the best every time the lights go on,” said Marsch.
“If we succeed in that, I actually think that we can consider ourselves a candidate for the championship with our squad – but in the role of a hunter.”
