Manufacturers began to cut the warranty on SSD

by alex

SSD manufacturer PNY suddenly reduced the warranty period for its XLR8 CS3030 models without fully informing users. The warranty has now been cut by almost 80% – and this has raised a lot of questions.

PNY has given an official comment to Tom's Hardware. The manufacturer explains the shortening of the warranty period by two factors: an increase in demand for SSDs due to the Chia Coin cryptocurrency and a shortage of NAND flash memory.

It is worth noting that the XLR8 CS3030 drives were considered among the most reliable on the market. PNY probably wants SSD companies to stop being so attractive to miners.

The manufacturer has also updated the TBW for the XLR8 CS3030. The company is believed to have had to change the type of NAND memory it uses. However, it is argued that the reduced product durability should not affect consumers who use SSDs for their intended purpose.
