Before the 333rd Vienna Derby, the Austria coach remembers the opponent, who is now Rapid coach.
“It hurts to look at the table. Very much, ”says Austria's sports director Manuel Ortlechner. “It's paradoxical, we're last, but the mood is good because the performances were right in the end,” said coach Manfred Schmid before the 333rd Vienna Derby on Sunday (the 300th in the Bundesliga, as it were).
This brings Schmid back to a duel against the now rapid trainer Didi Kühbauer, which was often to be admired on the pitch many years ago. Memories? “That was never suitable for young people,” says Schmid, “but there was always a respectful approach.” Ortlechner also celebrated beautiful victories and bitter moments in the derbies. “The worst was the demolition derby, the best was the away win in the championship year 2013.”

The most important derby is always the next. Above all, the most recent appearance at 1: 1 in Sturm is encouraging. “We have to perform again like in Graz.”
Despite the table situation, Schmid and Ortlechner know that the leap up is possible. “I only see Salzburg ahead, against everyone else anything is possible.” After all, only three points separate the Viennese from sixth place.
