In Paris, from December 31, the mandatory wearing of a medical mask on the street and in public places will be introduced due to a sharp increase in the incidence of the omicron strain of coronavirus. This was announced by the city police department.
The police of the European city noted that this measure will become an important barrier that can significantly limit the spread of infection. This requirement applies to all people over the age of 11, except cyclists and sports.
Failure to comply with the requirement will be punished with a fine of 135 euros (11.3 thousand rubles). In the near future, law enforcement officers will begin to conduct regular and intensified inspections, especially in crowded places in the capital.
The day before, 208 thousand new COVID-19 infections were detected in France per day. Health Minister Olivier Veran called the new data on the incidence “dizzying”. The daily infection rates declined steadily over several weeks, in part due to the nature of the delta strain, which is less infectious than the omicron strain. The minister called the record rapid spread of the new COVID-19 variation a “tidal wave.”
On December 28, the French authorities announced the tightening of epidemiological restrictions for citizens amid the spread of the omicron strain of the coronavirus. In addition, the permitted number of visitors to public events in the premises will be reduced to two thousand. At the same time, the French Ministry of Health did not introduce a curfew in the country.
Restrictions have increased due to a sharp deterioration in the situation with COVID-19. So, on December 25, it was reported that more than 100 thousand cases of coronavirus infection were detected in France per day. Given the new information, it is expected that the authorities will introduce additional restrictive measures.
