The specialist recommended not to store messages on the phone, which may contain private information. Arseniy Shcheltsin, General Director of ANO Digital Platforms, told the Prime agency about this.
Shcheltsin noticed that many fraudsters, if they gain access to the victim's phone, study the information stored in his memory, contact data and SMS messages. Therefore, the expert recommended not to leave SMS with codes from banks and passwords from services.
According to the specialist, most of the SMS messages with codes and keys “live” for no more than one minute. However, criminals can even use old codes to enter various services. In this case, fraudsters can, when communicating with the support of banks or other companies, introduce themselves as the name of the victim and provide a history of messages as evidence. Thus, an attacker can gain access to the victim's account.
In conclusion, Arseny Shcheltsin listed the rules that should be followed in order not to become a victim of scammers. “Make a backup, install two-factor verification, don't lose your phone and keep track of your SMS messages,” the expert summed up.
Earlier, Elvina Nasibulina, an analyst-researcher of digital products at Roskachestvo, spoke about the possibility of managing gadgets without the knowledge of the owner. “If the phone is behaving strangely, it might be due to a recently downloaded app. Viruses often disguise themselves as ordinary programs like a flashlight, alarm clock or organizer and only later show their malicious functions, ”Nasibulina said.
