From Monday, tightened hygiene measures apply when shopping. Many branches give away FFP2 masks to their customers free of charge. The rush is enormous.
First 59 cents, now nothing. From Monday, the FFP2 mask requirement also applies in supermarkets. The rush before the weekend was enormous, in some branches there were no more masks. What you need to know:
Rewe
At Billa, Merkur and Penny, customers get a free FFP2 mask Monday through Wednesday. Five million are in store in the branches, and another 15 million have been ordered.

One mask per customer is also free at Spar. 20 million masks are ready, the offer is valid “while stocks last”, but at least for the time being without any time limit. They are currently delivering “at full speed”.
Hofer …
… also gives FFP2 masks “until further notice” to customers free of charge. The wholesaler Metro also gives away one mask per customer.
Lidl
From Monday to Wednesday, masks at Lidl cost 59 cents. From Thursday, 4 million masks will be delivered and given to customers free of charge.
Anyone caught without an FFP2 mask pays 25 euros.
