Police detained a man.
Capitol Police prevented an attempt by a man armed with a large machete and three knives to enter the US Congress building, where the coffin with the body of the ex-president is on display Carter.

“During a search at the north entrance of the Capitol Visitor Center, USCP officers found a machete in a bag that was being scanned in an X-ray machine,” the report notes.
After searching the bag, law enforcement officers found three more knives. Its owner turned out to be 44-year-old resident of the US capital, Mel Horn. He was arrested on several counts of carrying a dangerous weapon.
During the incident, the north entrance was temporarily blocked, but about an hour later it was reopened to visitors.
The police added that citizens' access to the Capitol premises, where the coffin with the body of former President Carter was on display, was not stopped.
Recall that earlier near the Capitol in Washington, the police arrested an armed man.
Earlier, a man rammed a car into a barrier near the Capitol. When the police ran out to the meeting, the man first fired into the air and then shot himself.
