The woman said that only two people tried to help the man, while others continued shopping.
A scandal over an incident in a supermarket is not dying down in Poland. Eyewitnesses said that while a man was dying in the middle of the store, other people did not help him and were also outraged by the queues. This incident is called “exceptional callousness.”
The Polish publication wprost.pl writes about this.
One of the store's visitors said that among the crowded store, there were very few people who tried to help the man.
The woman tried to resuscitate the 57-year-old man. At the same time, the cashier was talking to the emergency services dispatcher. The other shoppers were not worried about the man's fate and continued their pre-Christmas shopping.
“After a while, I ran out of strength. I screamed that I had no more strength and that someone had to change me. The saleswoman helped me, but she also lost her strength, and I took up resuscitation again. People with strollers were passing by us. While I was resuscitating the gentleman, people were standing next to me at the checkout, and business was going on as usual. There was a huge crush at the checkout, people were upset by the fuss,” the shopper said.
Eventually, paramedics, rescuers, and the police arrived at the scene. The store operated as usual throughout the entire time. Only the rescuers asked the supermarket workers to close the cash register where resuscitation measures were being carried out.
The man who was receiving assistance was later taken to the cardiology department of the voivodeship hospital. Despite the doctors' efforts, it was not possible to save the life of the 57-year-old man.
The supermarket issued a statement expressing its sympathy to the family of the deceased. They noted that “there were many customers in the store, which is due to the period of intensive shopping before Christmas.”
