In France, a suspect in an attack on a priest in Lyon admitted to committing the crime because of adultery. The newspaper Parisien reports.
On November 6, police detained Giorgi P., a 40-year-old Georgian man. He claims to have shot at the Orthodox priest Nicholas Kakavalakis out of revenge because he allegedly had an intimate relationship with his 35-year-old wife. The Georgian concubine confirmed an intimate relationship with the priest.
According to George, he got rid of his weapons on the embankment of the Sona River. Investigators are verifying this information. During a search of his house, another weapon was found. The detainee is known to the police for driving without a driver's license and illegal possession of a weapon.
An attack near a Greek church in Lyon occurred on October 31, when Kakavalakis was closing the church. The attacker shot him twice with a hunting rifle and then fled. As a result, the priest was seriously injured.
After the surgery, Kakavalakis came out of a coma. When communicating with investigators, he did not rule out the version of the attack out of revenge.
On November 1, police released another detainee who was suspected of assaulting a priest. During the investigation, investigators found no evidence to hold the man accountable for the attack.
