French President Emmanuel Macron will convene a meeting of the country's Defense and Security Council on the situation in Ukraine. According to TASS, the Élysée Palace announced its convocation a few hours after Macron visited an agricultural exhibition in Paris and spoke with representatives of the food industry.

It is assumed that the meeting of the Security Council will begin on Saturday, February 26, at 17:00 local time (19:00 Moscow time).

Earlier it was reported that Macron called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the request of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to convey a request for negotiations. Macron said the conversation with Putin was quick, frank and direct. During the conversation, the French leader asked for an early cessation of hostilities and offered to have a conversation with Zelensky.

Due to the situation in the Donbass, Russia launched a military operation on February 24 to protect the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR). During the special operation, the Russian authorities “will seek to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
