Orban will wait until Ukraine fulfills all demands.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban personally promised him not to block Ukraine's accession to the European Union if it fulfills all the conditions of the European Commission.
Macron said this while answering questions from Politico at a press conference in Brussels, European Pravda reports.
“I asked him (Orban – ed.), and he said if Ukraine fulfills the seven conditions of the European Commission, he will not block,” Macron noted.
Macron also expressed hope that the Hungarian prime minister will not “take Europe hostage” in the subsequent stages of negotiations with Ukraine.
“The next months will be decisive for Europe and for Hungary,” he added.
Remember:
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban vetoed a €50 billion aid package for Ukraine after previously abstaining from a decision on Ukraine's EU accession talks.
“Results of the night shift: veto on additional money for Ukraine, veto on the revision of the MFF. We will return to this issue next year after due preparation,” Orban wrote on the social network X.
The remaining 26 EU leaders agreed to return to the debate at a new meeting early next year to try to reach an agreement on badly needed support for Kyiv.
On December 14, the European Council decided to begin negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union, and also granted Georgia candidate status for EU membership. Orbán, who also opposed the start of negotiations, was not present during the vote on this issue.
