The French leader hinted at the possibility of a return to the Cold War.

French President Emmanuel Macron believes that EU countries need to think about the conditions of future dialogue with Russia regarding a new security system on the continent.

He spoke about this while speaking to journalists at the NATO summit in The Hague, France24 reports.

“We need to rethink the security architecture in the territories from the Black Sea to the Arctic, to determine to what extent we are ready to defend ourselves and on what terms to conduct a dialogue with Russia on arms limitation and restoration of trust. We need to think about this now,” the French president said.

At the same time, Macron stressed that Europe needs to stockpile weapons due to the large gap between Europe and the level that Moscow has reached.

Also, according to the French leader, EU countries should think about security guarantees, which should include restrictions on the proliferation of weapons and their volumes, as was the case during the Cold War.

As reported, at the NATO summit in The Hague, a joint statement was adopted by 32 countries, which asserts that Russia is a “long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security.”

Let us recall that on June 25, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that the European Union has become an enemy of Russia and poses a “direct threat” to the aggressor state.
