French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about militants from Syria, who were transferred to the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, via Turkey. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.

“I can confirm that, according to our information, 300 militants left Syria to arrive in Baku through Gaziantep,” Macron said. According to him, they were identified as members of a terrorist group in the Aleppo area. He stressed that another such transfer is being prepared in the future.

Earlier, the fact of the transfer of Syrian mercenaries from Turkey to Azerbaijan against the background of the aggravation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh was confirmed by the US Department of Defense. A Pentagon spokesman said there were hundreds of militants involved. According to him, dozens of flights were carried out between Turkey and Azerbaijan, which carried mercenaries.

The impending transfer of mercenaries was also reported by CNN. According to the newspaper, volunteers from the pro-Turkish “Syrian National Army” are gathering near the border of Turkey and Syria, awaiting transportation to the conflict zone.

On September 27, fighting began in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR, Artsakh Republic), over which Baku and Yerevan have been waging a territorial dispute for 30 years. Azerbaijan stated that Armenian forces fired at its positions and settlements, and announced the beginning of a counteroffensive. Armenia accused the Azerbaijani army of attacking Karabakh.
