Macron called on the international community to avoid "double standards" on global conflicts.
French President Emmanuel Macron called on the world community to avoid double standards when assessing the war in the Middle East and Ukraine.
He said this at the opening of the summit of leaders of French-speaking countries, Le Monde writes.
“I believe that the French-speaking world is a place that speaks the same language about Ukraine, which is today under attack, whose borders and territorial integrity are threatened by Russia's war of conquest. But it also defends a vision where there is no room for double standards, where all lives are equal in all conflicts around the world,” he said.
Macron also mentioned Lebanon, a former French colony, “whose sovereignty and peace are today shaken” due to the escalation of the conflict between Israel and the pro-Iranian group Hezbollah.
“There can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians,” he added.
Earlier, Macron said that European countries would have to reconsider their relations with Russia.
