French President Macron said he conveyed Zelensky's request for negotiations to Putin

French President Emmanuel Macron said he called Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the request of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to convey a request for talks. It is reported by “Interfax”
“I had a quick, frank and direct exchange with President Putin at the request of President Zelensky. In order, firstly, to ask for an early cessation of hostilities, and, secondly, to offer to have a conversation with Zelensky, who asks for this, but he himself could not contact him, ”Macron said.
The politician noted that he also “delivered a message from France and a message from Zelensky” to the President of Russia. “So far it hasn’t worked,” he added.
A telephone conversation between Putin and Macron took place on the evening of February 24 at the initiative of the French side. The President of Russia, during a conversation with the head of France, explained the decision to conduct a military operation in the Donbass.
Earlier on February 24, Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation to protect Donbass. The head of state also turned to external forces that might try to pose a threat to Russia. According to him, Russia's response will be immediate.
