French President Emmanuel Macron called the condition for the use of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in the country. According to him, the vaccine cannot be distributed on the territory of the republic until the Russian manufacturer submits an application for registration of the drug to the European authorities. RIA Novosti reports.
In an interview with F1 TV, the French leader commented on the data on the Russian vaccine published in the medical magazine The Lancet. Macron noted that they point to the high performance of Sputnik V.
At the same time, the President pointed out that the Russian manufacturer must send the French authorities permission to enter the market, “this is a matter of sanitary safety.” As soon as this happens, Macron said, the Russian drug will be “independently reviewed from a scientific point of view” in the European Union. “This is not a political decision. This is a scientific solution, ”the French President stressed.
Earlier in the medical journal Lancet, data appeared that the results of the third phase of clinical trials of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine demonstrated 91.6% effectiveness against coronavirus. 19,866 people took part in testing the vaccine. German Chancellor Angela Merkel praised this data.
Sputnik V became the world's first registered vaccine based on the human adenovirus. Currently, the development of Russian scientists is among the ten best vaccine candidates in the list of the World Health Organization (WHO).
