The French authorities will not succumb to violence from the protesters and will continue to pursue an antiquated policy. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Paris Match.
The politician accused the French, participating in demonstrations against sanitary passes and declaring the dictatorship of the leaders of the republic, of losing a sense of reality. “I will not succumb to radical violence. I believe that the very existence of democracy is at stake. Their attitude is a threat to democracy, ”he stressed.
Macron urged the protesters to pay attention to the mass actions in countries where the rule of law is absent. In their opinion, the demonstrators are deliberately undermining the situation in the country in order to “challenge the existence of a republican order.”
On July 25, the French leader reminded citizens that freedom implies obligations and accused the protesters of selfishness. He stressed that if people decide not to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, they can infect their loved ones.
Protests against the introduction of sanitary passes and the tightening of the antiquity regime in France have been going on for several weeks. Hundreds of thousands of people took part in them in Paris and other cities of the country. During the rallies, demonstrators clash with police on a regular basis, and law enforcement agencies use water cannons and tear gas to quell riots.
