Lukashenko pardons dozens of people convicted of “protest-related crimes”

All those pardoned "admitted their guilt".

Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on pardoning 30 political prisoners.

This was reported on the official website of the President of Belarus.

We are talking about 14 women and 16 men, some of whom have serious illnesses. There are also elderly people among them.

“All of them admitted their guilt, sincerely repented of what they had done and pledged to lead a law-abiding lifestyle. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will ensure control over the fulfillment of such obligations on the instructions of the head of state,” Lukashenko's press service said.

Recall that on July 4 it became known that Lukashenko signed the amnesty law. The document did not provide relief for people involved in “extremist and terrorist activities”, but then 10 political prisoners were still released from captivity. Among them were three women and seven men.

It should be noted that Belarus is the only country in Europe where the death penalty continues to be used. Over the past 20 years, about 400 people have been executed. Only two cases of pardon are known.
