According to the journalist, it will be difficult to survive in such a world not only for Ukraine, but also for Belarus itself.
Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has already started his election campaign before the next fictitious “election” of the President of Belarus. That's why he simply couldn't ignore Zelensky's interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman, in which the Ukrainian president recalled how Lukashenko apologized after Russia's attack from Belarus.
Journalist Vitaly Portnikov writes about this in an article for “Crimea. Realities”.
“It is clear that Lukashenko does not want to admit responsibility for providing the territory of his own country as a springboard for aggression. However, after 30 years in power, he must understand that dragging his own country into war means ignoring international law. And this is exactly what he has been doing in recent years. Therefore, we should not shift responsibility from a sick head to a healthy one,” Portnikov noted.
He recalled that earlier in an interview with the BBC, Lukashenko said that he was ready to go to warm Crimea, annexed by Russia, as soon as Putin invited him, but this visit never took place. However, the Belarusian dictator successfully reached Abkhazia, the territory of which is effectively controlled by Russia, and also received Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania in Minsk.
“No less indicative was Lukashenko's meeting with the leader of the occupied and annexed “DPR” Denis Pushilin and the holding of “Days of Crimea” in Belarus. Thus, Lukashenko seems to have demonstrated that he is in solidarity with Putin on a fundamental issue – disregard for international law. That, together with the Russian president, he is ready to build a world in which the future of states will be determined not by international law, but by the law of force. By agreeing to meet with the leaders of puppet regimes, he himself demonstrates his own lack of independence in foreign policy,” Portnikov noted.
According to the journalist, Lukashenko's actions demonstrate his agreement to recognize the law of force and adhere to it both in relation to opposition Belarusians and neighboring countries.
“But in the world that Lukashenko is helping Putin build, it will be difficult for not only Ukraine, but also Belarus itself to survive. Because such a world is a world for dictators, not for peoples,” Vitaly Portnikov emphasized.
Recall that Lukashenko accused Zelensky of drawing Belarus into a “war.” He also said that until this time he was “on good terms” with Zelensky and does not understand the behavior of the Ukrainian president.
