London police have refused to investigate a party hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Downing Street in May 2020 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. This is reported by Business Insider.

Police are not investigating “anti-COVID violations that come to light long after they occur,” the statement said. At the same time, law enforcement officers admitted that an investigation into possible violations could begin if there was “substantial evidence”. The cabinet secretary is currently conducting fact-checks on lockdown parties on behalf of Johnson himself.

The fact that Johnson attended the party at his residence, despite the current epidemiological restrictions, became known on December 20, 2021. The Guardian published a picture showing Johnson and his wife Carrie sitting at the table, two more people are next to them without maintaining social distance.

On January 12, Johnson admitted to taking part in the party and apologized for it. According to him, he came to the event because he wanted to “thank government employees”, and after 25 minutes he left it to return to work. After that, a number of British politicians called on the prime minister to resign.
