It lives at a depth of 800 meters: a new species of fish was found in the Bering Sea. It was named after the famous ichthyologist Peter Schmidt.
A new species of fish was discovered in the Bering Sea, said the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanology (VNIRO).
Russian researchers have classified the new species as belonging to the Liparidae family. Representatives of this family are also called sea slugs: they have no external skeletal elements, so their body is soft and gelatinous.
It is known that the new species lives at a depth of more than 800 meters in the Bering Sea. Found it “on the continental slope of the Aleutian Basin in the depth range of 852-862 meters,” writes MK.ru with reference to VNIRO data. It was named after the famous ichthyologist Peter Schmidt.
