Link found between dirty air and depression

by alex

Cambridge University Press shared the results of a study by scientists, which explains the link between mental health and dirty air.

Scientists from the University of Bristol and the Imperial College in London were engaged in relevant scientific work. They attracted more than 13.8 thousand residents of the country aged 15 and over to participate. Experts have been collecting anonymized data for seven years. They also analyzed the difference between the values of nitrogen oxide and fine particulate air pollutants PM 2.5 in the air.

As a result, it was found that an increase in the concentration of harmful substances in the air increases the likelihood of developing diseases and the frequency of seeking psychiatric help. The researchers announced that mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression, are worsening in residents of areas with more polluted air.
