The pilot project Face Pay, which allows you to pay for travel using face recognition technology, has been launched in test mode on all lines of the Moscow metro. This was announced on September 20 on the Telegram channel by the vice-mayor of Moscow, head of the city's Department of Transport Maxim Liksutov.

– Now Face Pay is available throughout the metro – we have connected the last five lines to testing. If you were waiting for your line to appear in the lists for the test – this time has come, – said Liksutov. – 14 lines and 241 metro stations are connected to the Face Pay service. Moscow became the first city in the world to use facial recognition for fare payments on such a large scale. The final stage of testing has begun today, according to the results of which we will be ready to launch an innovative service for all metro passengers.

The head of the Department of Transport stressed that every passenger of the metropolitan subway can join the Face Pay testers.

It is important to note that on the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya and Nekrasovskaya lines, the “Early Time” campaign is also valid for Face Pay testers (fare is 23 rubles instead of 46 rubles).

In order to join the Face Pay testing, you need to leave an application on the Moscow metro website. It will be reviewed within a few days, after which an e-mail will be sent with instructions. Next, you need to download a test version of the Moscow Metro mobile application to your phone, upload your photo to it and link your bank card. To pay for travel, cards of any banks of the Visa, Mastercard and Mir payment systems are suitable. Testing is very simple: the passenger goes through the turnstiles marked on the floor with a black sticker, looks into the camera on the turnstile, and then goes through the opened doors. The fare will be debited from the linked bank card automatically. In case of problems, they must be reported using the feedback form.

It is planned that the Face Pay payment system will be implemented in other types of Moscow transport.

– Now we are also working on the possibility of launching the service at the MCC, MCD and ground transport. On behalf of the Mayor of Moscow, we will also soon introduce a discount system for Face Pay users, – said Maxim Liksutov.
