The interim government of Libya, which sits in the east of the country, has resigned. This is stated in the corresponding statement, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the document, the head of the parliament, Agila Saleh, and the head of the interim government, Abdullah at-Thani, held an urgent meeting on September 13. At it, politicians discussed the possibilities for improving living conditions in the country. The fall in living standards has sparked protests in the past few days.
It is noted that the resignation letter will be considered by the House of Representatives.
Since 2011, a situation of dual power has developed in the country, which began after the assassination of Muammar Gaddafi, who ruled since 1969. In the east of Libya sits parliament, which is supported by the Libyan National Army of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. Another major political force in the country is the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), which controls Tripoli and the territories in the west of the country.
