Libya was offered to “dismember”

by alex

Libya was offered to “dismember” into three parts, each of which will have its own government. TASS writes about this with reference to an Egyptian source who was present at the talks between the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and the speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Akila Saleh.

According to the source, the transitional stage of the settlement, which was discussed by the parties, involves the division of power between three regions: Cyrenaica (north-east of the country), Tripolitania (west) and Fezzan (south). This will continue until elections are organized under UN supervision. During the talks, it was noted that a political solution would not be complete without the withdrawal of foreign forces.

In addition, Cairo reaffirmed its support for the Libyan army “in the confrontation with foreign forces, mercenaries and armed militias.” According to some reports, the Egyptian side wants to amend its initiative: they will touch upon the need to develop an international mechanism for the elimination of illegal armed formations. In Cairo, they also allegedly want to create an international committee to supervise the oil fields.

At the same time, Russia on September 21 refused to “dismember” Libya. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that Moscow is satisfied with the current situation “on the ground”, since the hostilities have been suspended so far.

In Libya, the confrontation continues between the Government of National Accord (GNA), which controls Tripoli and the territories in the west of the country and is supported by Turkey, and the LNA, which is supported by Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Its unofficial allies are France and the United Arab Emirates – the latter, according to some sources, supplied the army with equipment, including equipment purchased from Russia.
