LG will stop releasing new smartphones and providing updates for existing models. This is reported by the PhoneArena edition with reference to the Tron insider.
The blogger said on his Twitter that the top managers of the Korean corporation have decided to permanently stop the work of the smartphone division. According to Tron, an official announcement from LG will be released on April 5. Manufacturing employees will retain their jobs at the company and will be relocated to a home appliance factory in Changwon City.
Most likely, LG will not only close the mobile business, but also stop supporting its devices with updates. We are talking about Android updates and security patches that smartphone manufacturers usually ship to their phones within two to three years from the date of release.
Due to the withdrawal from the market, the top management of the company also decided to scale back plans for the development of all phones. In particular, the development of a conceptual smartphone-roll, which the Korean corporation showed at the beginning of the year at CES 2021, will be stopped.
Reporters noted that LG is likely to continue releasing security updates for smartphones, as this is the company's commitment to its consumers.
Earlier it became known that LG could not find a buyer for its division for the production of smartphones and intends to go out of business. Reports that the Korean corporation will stop producing phones and other similar equipment appeared at the end of February.
