War is a defeat, Pope Francis has once again emphasized.
During a meeting with pilgrims on Sunday, August 4, Pope Francis directed his speech to Lebanon, where the beatification of a 17th-century Maronite patriarch took place the day before. The Pope expressed concern about the escalation in the Middle East and the events in Venezuela, offering condolences to the victims of the natural disaster in India.
The Vatican writes about this.
“The Lebanese people are still suffering greatly today! In particular, I mean the families of the victims of the explosion in the Beirut port. I hope that justice and truth will be established as soon as possible. May the new blessed support the faith and hope of the Church in Lebanon and stand up for this dear country,” Pope Francis said.
It should be noted that the Pope recalled the tragic events that took place four years ago, when the explosion on August 4, 2020 killed dozens of people, injured thousands and lost their premises.
The Pope also expressed concern about events in the Middle East. He called for preventing the expansion of the conflict, which is already “terribly bloody and cruel.”
The Pope assured that he was praying for all the victims, especially “for the innocent children,” expressing his closeness to the friendly community in the Holy Land, as well as the people of Palestine, Israel and Lebanon.
“Let there be enough courage to resume dialogue, to immediately cease fire in Gaza and on all fronts, to free the hostages and provide humanitarian aid to the people. Attacks, even targeted ones, and murders can never be a solution to the problem. They do not help to move along the path of justice, along the path of peace, but give rise to even more hatred and revenge. Enough, brothers and sisters! Enough!” the Pope emphasized.
Chapter The Catholic Church turned its gaze to Venezuela, which is going through a critical situation – there were controversial presidential elections. And also prayed for the victims and the dead in India, in the state of Kerala. There were monsoon rains and landslides that caused deaths.
