Lebanon has arrested two Russians in absentia in the case of the explosion of ammonium nitrate in the port of Beirut. Reported by Al Jazeera.
The country's court requested an international arrest warrant for the owner and captain of the vessel where the ammonium nitrate cargo was located. Interpol was asked to help track down the men and demand their extradition wherever they are.
We are talking about businessman Boris Grechushkin and sailor Boris Prokoshev. Grechushkin owned the ship Rhosus, from which the cargo of saltpeter that exploded in early August was seized. Prokoshev was the captain.
It is known that in 2013 almost three thousand tons of ammonium nitrate was confiscated from Rhosus, which, presumably, exploded in early August. Grechushkin is suspected of illegally transporting cargo. It is noted that 25 people are involved in the explosion in Beirut, including several officials of the port administration, heads of customs and two Syrian workers.
Earlier it was reported that the judge Fadi Sauan, who is leading the case of the explosion in Beirut, wanted to arrest the owner and captain of the Rhosus vessel.
The explosion in the port of Beirut thundered on 4 August. Because of the fire, the 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in the warehouse for a long time exploded. About 190 people were killed, more than six thousand people were injured, thousands of houses were destroyed.
