Leading lawyer of the Eurasian Law Company “Senator” Sergei Savelyev warned Russians about responsibility for selfies that violate the law. He told the Prime agency that in certain cases a person can be brought to disciplinary, civil and even criminal liability for photographs.

Thus, the specialist recalled that civil servants should not take photographs that defame honor and dignity. Such selfies can face dismissal.

“Employees of the internal affairs bodies, military personnel are prohibited from taking and posting photographs with alcohol, in an obscene form, photographs of an erotic nature,” Saveliev explained, adding that regardless of the profession, it is forbidden to take photographs that may entail the dissemination of information protected by law. The lawyer explained that it is forbidden to publish your photographs in the background or in the objects themselves, information about which is a state secret. He cited the example of a photo at military facilities.

The specialist clarified that the publication and use of the image of a citizen is allowed only with his consent, even if he himself posted them on the Internet.

On January 1, 2022, new rules for the distribution of information containing state secrets by degrees of secrecy came into force in Russia, now the data has three degrees of secrecy. The first is data of particular importance, it includes information about foreign policy, economic, scientific and technical, military, intelligence, counterintelligence and operational-search activities, the spread of which may harm the interests of the country. The second category is top secret data, the third category is classified data.
