Moscow, following Belarus, added to the stop-list the representatives of the EU countries, “the most actively involved in the sanctions rush.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told about this, RIA Novosti reports.
“As you know, since 2015 we have uniform stop-lists,” Lavrov explained support for the restrictions. He added that coordination of actions has been established within the framework of the Union State.
On October 2, Belarus introduced sanctions against the European Union as a retaliatory measure, on November 23 they decided to expand them.
Prior to that, Brussels had put in place its measures against Belarus. The first package concerned 40 Belarusian officials who, according to the European Union, are responsible for electoral fraud and human rights violations. Following the European Union, the US also imposed sanctions on eight Belarusian officials. On November 6, sanctions were also imposed against President Alexander Lukashenko himself, as well as 14 other Belarusian officials. Their assets in Europe will be frozen, and they will be banned from entering the EU.
Presidential elections in Belarus were held on August 9. The CEC announced that Lukashenko won 80 percent of the vote. This triggered massive protests throughout the country, which continue to this day. The first shares were violently accelerated.
