Even after the country returns to multilateral formats, the new US administration will not obey collective decisions and will only pursue its own interests. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov shared such expectations, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Lavrov recalled that recently Washington has left a number of international structures and agreements, including UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Council and the Paris Climate Agreement.
“Yes, they say that the new administration of the United States will be more predisposed to return to international structures, but the trend is still taking place, and the tendency is that the United States, even when and if they return to certain multilateral structures, all -So they send a signal that they do not want to subordinate their actions to collective decisions, if these collective decisions do not reflect the interests of the United States one hundred percent, and such, by definition, cannot be, “Lavrov said at the Dialogue for the Future forum.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow does not expect anything good from the administration of US President-elect Joe Biden. Ryabkov said the Trump administration left a heavy legacy to the next president. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry doubts that Biden's team is determined to create a “healthy basis” for dialogue with Russia.
On December 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Joe Biden on his victory in the presidential election. In the telegram, the Russian leader wished the President-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States “can, despite their differences, really contribute to solving many problems and challenges that the world is currently facing.”
