Sergey Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has sent a video demonstrating violence against protesters in the West to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. TASS reports.
“So that this discussion, if the West is interested in it, was conducted on the basis of facts, we prepared a video series of how illegal actions are suppressed in the West and how our police reacts to the atrocities in our country,” Lavrov said.
Earlier, the foreign minister also said that Western countries have much harsher laws and punishments for participating in illegal actions than in Russia. “The West does not like to talk on the basis of facts,” Lavrov said and stressed that the coverage of demonstrations in Russia and foreign countries demonstrates obvious double standards.
The day before, on February 2, the Simonovsky court in Moscow replaced Alexei Navalny's suspended sentence with a real one. Thus, Navalny was sentenced to 3.5 years in a general regime colony, but will spend two years and eight months in prison, taking into account the year spent under house arrest during the preliminary investigation in the Yves Rocher case.
