Sergey Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reacted to the refusal of several representatives of the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina to meet with him during his working visit to the country. His words on Tuesday, December 15, are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The Foreign Minister stressed that Russia sees no need to revise the Dayton Accords. He also said that he had invited the head of the Bosnian Foreign Ministry to visit Moscow in 2021.
Earlier on December 15, it became known that two members of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Shefik Jaferovic and Zeljko Komšić – refused to meet with Lavrov, which was supposed to take place on Tuesday morning. They explained their decision by disagreeing with a number of statements by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding the Dayton Accords.
The Dayton Accords were negotiated in November 1995 at an American military base near the city of Dayton and ended the 1992-1995 civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In December of the same year, the presidents of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia (from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia as part of Serbia and Montenegro) Alia Izetbegovic, Franjo Tudjman and Slobodan Milosevic signed this document in Paris. Russia, the USA, Great Britain, Germany and France acted as guarantors of the agreement.
